Punto Azul - Lima, Peru

Today I went to my first restaurant in Peru called Punto Azul. It was in the Miraflores neighborhood in Lima. The architecture looked Spanish, probably because of the Spanish colonialism impact that they left.

I ordered a frozen passion fruit or maracuya drink, which was good. We ordered a bunch of food for the table to share. First came the conchas negras, which is blood clam ceviche, I thought it was very tender and rich. We also got a combo so it came with fresh fish and octopus straight from the ocean. The fish was so tender and just melted in your mouth. The ceviche had the perfect amount of lime flavor. It was my first time having Peruvian ceviche so I did not know what to expect. I can say they set the bar pretty high for future Peruvian restaurants.

After that we got a seafood paella (even though it wasn’t called paella), it had scallops and even scallop babies or eggs which was buttery. The paella was full of seafood and the octopus in it was very flavorful.

The restaurant said they were most proud of their octopus and so we ordered it.  It was boiled and it came with a cold potato salad dish. The octopus was good and had some flavor, but was not outstanding though, and the cold potato dish was just ok. as it was minty. While it was decent, I thought the fish in the ceviche was the best.

After that we ordered the fried seafood platter which had scallops, fish, shrimp, octopus and calamari. It was nothing outstanding but it was good. For dessert we had tiramisu which was like any tiramisu if you have had it. While it had less espresso it made up for it with the chocolate on top.

Overall I thought the service was great because he took a lot of his time to explain all the dishes which was helpful. Because they recognized how famous I am, they gave me some fridge magnets with the restaurant recipes printed on it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a traditional Peruvian sea food restaurant and their ceviches are a must have. I would give this restaurant a 8.7/10.
