Today we went to a restaurant called ConVivio in Fiumefreddo Bruzio, Italy. It was getting dark because we had been fishing late and I lost my shoes in the sand, so I had to look all over the beach until I found them. By that time, we were starving. We eventually found a restaurant where we had to drive up a winding two way street to a medieval castle on top of the mountain and inside the walls was a local family owned restaurant.
The waitress was quick to bring us to our table. I got a special drink concoction that I have no idea what was in it, but it was amazing. To start we had a Calabrian tomato salad, that had tomatoes, oregano, bread croutons, and olive oil. Italians love to be right and brag, so when we got this dish they started going on and on about how all the vegetables are grown locally in the Calabrian region. Anyway, it was really good and while my mom was eating it she got a piece of bread crumb stuck on her forehead since she was putting her face in her food.
The bread was really bad even though it was homemade and I didn’t like the color, (it would have been better with Hawaiian rolls). Afterwards, they gave us a special dish that tasted like wet potato chips with crispy potato chips on top. It was their version of a Spanish tortilla de patata.
For my main dish I got some type of cod pasta with short and wide noodles, like Kingpin from Spiderman. The cod I ordered was so flaky and it was from a company called Bacalao Giraldo; it is considered the Cod of masters. They were right about it being the Cod of masters and the spices were amazing, but it would have been better with Asian spices. For dessert, we ordered ice cream but it was basically tiramisu. It was so good, and the texture was just like someone forgot tiramisu in a freezer. It would honestly rate it a 8.7/10.
