Last week, we went to Morocco from Portugal. Our first stop was Marrakech and we spent 2 nights there. I did not like Marrakech at all because it was so crowded and the food wasn't very good. After Marrakech, we drove to Essaouira and stayed in the medina. It was similar to Marrakech but much smaller and with fewer people. We ate lunch in a local stall at the fish market in the medina and for starters we had french fries. It was so salty that it put McDonald’s to shame but they were also very oily and the texture was like a sweaty sock. The salad that came with it were diced tomatoes and onions. My mom made a lime sauce and I mixed it into my salad to give it some flavor but instead it burned my mouth because I had a small cut. The olives that came with it were really good. We got Coca Cola and it tasted amazing because it was basically I just woke up and that was my breakfast.
For the meal part, we picked out some fresh seafood and the stall grilled them for us. We picked out tiny shrimp, spot tailed mantis shrimp (fun fact: the mantis shrimp can hit with the velocity of a 22 caliber bullet), and we also had sardines. We specifically asked them to grill the mantis shrimp and sardines, but for the tiny shrimp to be boiled. They decided to ignore us and grill everything, and also the sardines were not de-scaled (it is very easy to de-scale fish). The mantis shrimp was not fun to eat, they were sharp and there were more eggs than actual meat. The tiny shrimps were very tasty but not as good as the shrimp in Portugal. In the end, they tried to charge us $55 dollars for the underwhelming seafood that tasted like it was from a compost bin. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, not even my worst enemy. I would give this restaurant a 3.5/10.
