Today I went to Bar Latino, one of the oldest cantina's in Merida, Mexico. As soon as I walked though the saloon doors, I was hit with the smell of cigarettes. As we walked to our table the stench cleared a bit since the area where we were eating was airy and breathable. I appreciated the architecture of the place. The restaurant was very loud because there was a group of people that we’re laughing like a pack of hyenas.
The waiter was very helpful with taking my orders and bringing us to our table. The drinks came out fairly fast and I got a horchata which is made from white rice, water, and cinnamon which is then soaked over night and served with ice. Dont forget the suger. It was delicious, and it tasted sweet and had a powdery rice milk.
Bar Latino is a traditional Yucatani cantina that serves botanas with your drinks, similar to Spanish tapas. The macaroni salad tasted like nerds gummy clusters. The refried black beans were amazing, and one of my favorite side dishes. The potatoes did not disappoint me as well in that they tasted like breakfast potato’s that you have on the weekend sometimes
For an appatizer we ordered the nachos. The tortilla chips were way too soft making it hard to pick up the toppings. But the toppings were amazing, and included shredded pork (cuchinita), guacamole and spicey pickled vegetables. The flavor made up for the mess.
I got Sopa de Lima for my main. I thought it had to much tortilla strips and that it could use a little more vegetables even though I loved the meat. Everything else was amazing. i would recommend thsi restraunt to any one who wants a casual and authenitic place to eat, I would give it a 8.3/10

Myles I really miss you
