Today we went to the Mexican Immigration Center, because we needed to do something for our temporary visa for Mexico. Later we went to Izamal, a small Mayan village in the middle of nowhere.
The immigration and residency process was pretty self-explanatory. We went there early in the morning, because there is usually a wait (say's my dad). We arrived at around nine o’clock, and they took us to a waiting room with about 20 people. We took a seat and waited.
Our appointment was at ten, so we had a bit to wait, but gratefully we got to go a little bit earlier. From there, we were taken to a new room with even more people. There were these little box areas for people to sit in with an employee behind a desk. We were there to continue the process of getting our residency and visa for Mexico.
After going through that process, we got straight back into the car to drive 45 minutes to Izamal. Izamal is known as the Yellow City because most, if not all the buildings there are yellow. Even an enormous church that the Spanish built when they took out the small Mayan village that was there first was yellow.
The famous church was named Convento de San Antonio de Padu and they created the church on top of a massive pyramid named Pap Hol Chac as a base for their church. The spanish did this to asert their dominance over the Mayan people, by putting their culture (the church) over the Mayans culture (the pyramids) it showed that they were more powerful and that they belived they had a better culture. they took the bricks from the smaller pyramids and buildings, using them to build the rest of their church,
\While we were there, we went and walked around for a while. We went to this restaurant we always go to when we are there and ate lunch. After that, we went to climb a pyramid that was still left over after the Spanish came, and we saw some people doing this tribal ceremony thing at the top, and it was pretty cool to see. Then we made our way down, went to a few more stores, and made our way home.
For the rest of the day, it was pretty boring. We chilled and watched some fishing for a few hours, then had some family over. We ate some food and did some work before making my way to where I am now, in my bed, writing this up.
